● LAMTORO // SENEGAL // Style : ROCK RAP

It is thanks to the success he got from the really beginning that Abdou Rahman, convinced he knew which path was his, could impose himself. At school his mates were already calling him only Lamtoro, his stage name. During eleven long years, he and Bairé J became known and appreciated during the shows organized by schools and during the first stages of Senegalese artists where the band was invited to perform.

BOAT PEOPLE, DEPENDING INDEPENDENCE

● Amadou TOUNKARA // SENEGAL // Style : ACRYLIC PAINTING ON CANVAS

Of Senegalese origins, this remarkable painter and textile decorator lives in between Senegal, France and Japan. He often represents doors and windows in his paintings. He aims at creating openings on what is beyond, an "outside" in opposition to an "inside" which is also part of our reality: a painting mechanism to enable the artist and the spectator to engage in an analysis and an assessment of the daily habits, cultural and historical questions, signs and symbols, and particularly of changes occurring in our societies. But if this painting often evokes some painful parts of life such as immigration, tsunami, it has a great vitality of colours and gestures.  Aside the philosopher we discover the artist; a wonderful mastery of space and painting substance is added to the dynamism of political or social criticism.
